How many of you occasionally just go to bed, instead of flossing and brushing your teeth? Or maybe you’re been guilty of sleeping in and starting your day off without brushing your teeth?
I know I’ve been guilty of it! But, did you know that the most common cause of gingivitis is poor oral hygiene? You CAN prevent gingivitis!
Gingivitis is a periodontal disease that causes irritation, redness, swelling, and inflammation of your gums. Gingivitis can be so mild that you may not even be aware that you have it. However, it is very important to take gingivitis very seriously and to be proactive about treatment. If not treated, it can lead to bone loss, and eventually, you will start losing your teeth! A study was shown that more than 50 percent of adults have some form of gingivitis.
More than half of women experience a condition called “pregnancy gingivitis.” As we all know, being pregnant can cause your hormones to go crazy. This increase of hormones can cause extra plaque buildup, which then causes there to be inflammation of the gums, redness, and tenderness, and can cause bleeding.
In order to avoid gum disease, we recommend that our patients should brush at least twice daily (preferably in the mornings and before bed), avoid eating sugary snacks, use a Sonicare toothbrush (for about 2 minutes), and lastly to visit Sugar Fix Dental Loft regularly to maintain a nice and healthy smile!
