Here at Sugar Fix, veneers are our jam and it shows from the first consultation to the final try-in appointment. When it comes to your case, the biggest factor in how they will look comes down to the shade of your final veneers. Every case can be different for each patient. There are a lot of different factors that we look at to make sure that your veneers from the whites of your eyes and even the undertone of your skin can affect the shade of your veneers and to make sure they are the best fit for years to come. Here are some pointers to look at when it comes to choosing your shade!
If you choose to whiten before your preparation visit
In many cases, you will not receive veneers on all your surrounding teeth. You may want to get them whitened before your veneer treatment for the best result. To enhance your look, it is recommended that you choose a shade selection to match your natural teeth. Typically, if you are only doing your front four teeth as veneers, we highly recommend an in-office whitening prior to your preparation appointment. We do this because, so you can have a brighter porcelain shade at the end. The light base can help choose your final shade and we match the shade with the surrounding teeth. Since you are investing money into your smile, why not not make your final set just as bright! When we begin with a lighter and brighter base shade, we also don’t need to remove as much of your enamel and can really keep your teeth strong and healthy! At our Chicago-based dental loft, we will choose a shade that is most natural to the teeth surrounding the veneers for a better blend. At the end, after we cement your final veneers, we will give you custom whitening trays made to keep for whenever you need to refresh the natural teeth around your veneers just as white!
Be aware of the characteristics of your teeth
If you look really closely, some teeth in your smile can have natural characteristics. Take a look and see what teeth have them. It tends to look like frostiness around the teeth or along the gumline. Here at our Chicago-based dental loft, we look at those characteristics, and we like to add some around to ensure your veneers blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. If that is something you do not want on your teeth, let us know and we will make the changes to ensure you have the smile of your dreams!
The whites of your eyes
One indicator that we look at when it comes to choosing the shade of your veneers at, is the whites of your eyes. The whites of your eyes can really indicate the best shade for you. We don’t recommend going whiter than that. Why is that, you ask? Well for the most natural shade for your teeth, you never want to go whiter than that. It can match the white of your eyes or go a few shades down but never up! The reason being, is that in person or in photos, your teeth tend to stick out more if your shade is brighter than the whites of your eyes. Resulting in the Ross from Friends smile.
The undertone of your skin for your final veneers matters!
The ladies tend to know the struggle of finding the right shade of makeup foundation. The overall undertone or the warmness of your skin tone matters for the perfect foundation shade. In cosmetic dentistry, the same rules apply! With a warm undertone skin, you want to pick your final shade with a warm undertone as well. If you don’t, you will run the risk of your smile being too cool toned resulting in your final veneers looking gray against your skin. Keep in mind the undertones of your skin when looking at your shade for your final veneers. We have many shades that we will match the surrounding teeth with for an overall blend of your smile that you will love!
