When it comes to having a healthy mouth, your toothbrush is the number one tool . From electric to manual toothbrushes, it can be difficult to choose what is right for you. With over a hundred toothbrushes to choose from, how do you make a choice? There are three main categories of brushes: manual, electric, and sonic. Across the board, dentists recommend sonic toothbrushes as the best toothbrush for your teeth and gums. They blow the other two out of the water when it comes to cleaning off plaque and bacteria! In this blog, we’ll list some of our favorite toothbrushes on the market.
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9500 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush ($200)
Here at Sugar Fix Dental Loft, we have these on-site for you to purchase! It is by far our favorite toothbrush on the market. Sonicare has been around for years, Dr. Brittany has been using one since the early 90’s! With 5 different brush modes and 3 different intensities for a more personalized cleaning experience. You can also connect your toothbrush through Bluetooth on their app to ensure that you are properly cleaning your teeth. Your app will tell you if you’ve missed a spot, or if you’re scrubbing too hard and potentially injuring your gums!
Sonicare 9900 Prestige Power Toothbrush with SenseIQ ($400)
The Prestige is the newest addition to the Sonicare lineup, and it really is the Rolls Royce of toothbrushes. At this price point, you’d expect it to brush your teet for you, and it practically does! Dental offices love and hype up the Sonicare brand for good reason- the company doesn’t just release new colors and call it a better brush, they actually innovate new technology to drastically improve the products! This toothbrush is fully customized to your brushing habits and the technology will help you brush better. As you’re brushing, it senses the pressure you’re putting on the toothbrush and adjusts its frequency for maximum cleaning, while preventing injury to your gums. Whether you have sensitive teeth, or they are prone to stains, this new brush head is made for all types of teeth- no more switching brush heads! Lab tests also prove that it removes 20x more plaque than most electric toothbrushes on the market.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Plaque Control ($70)
If you are looking for an entry-level sonic toothbrush at a lower price-point, this is the one for you! It may not come with all the options and extras that the other Sonicare toothbrushes do, but it still has sonic technology and will clean way better than an electric toothbrush or manual toothbrush. It has one brush mode, as well as a pressure sensor that will let you know that you are brushing your teeth too hard. It also has a built-in 2-minute timer that stops every 30 seconds to ensure that you are brushing each quadrant of your mouth properly and for the right amount of time.
Oral-B White Pro 1000 Power Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush$40
This Oral-B toothbrush has a small round head that rotates and vibrates to help clean your teeth! Now, this toothbrush is Electric, which is different from Sonic. Electric toothbrushes don’t clean as well as sonic toothbrushes, but they also come at a much lower cost. In settings such as nursing homes, while traveling, or sleepaway camp, this is a wonderful option, since toothbrushes are so often lost during these times. They are also a great option for someone with limited hand control, as they are able to do some of the brushing for you! The small round brush head rotates and vibrates to assist you in clearing away plaque. With it’s two-minute timer, the brush makes sure you brush for long enough to clean your whole mouth. It has a pressure indicator to show if you are brushing too hard as well as a built-in timer that stops every 30 seconds to indicate to move to another area of your mouth.
If you’re afraid of losing your sonic toothbrush on vacation, one of our favorite manual toothbrushes is the Oral-B Pro-Health All-in-One Manual Toothbrush.
The crossaction bristles along with the silicone barrier around them will ensure a clean mouth as well as stimulated gums! If there’s one thing about manual toothbrushes it is to make sure you are cleaning your teeth correctly and for the right amount of time. Set a timer for two whole minutes and brush that whole time! That’ll give enough time for the nutrients in your toothpaste to absorb into your teeth. Also, brushing your teeth at a 45 degree angle along the gumline using little circular motions will ensure that every nook and cranny is clean!
Whether you are investing in a new toothbrush for yourself or a loved one, all of these toothbrushes will help you achieve a healthy mouth if you know how to use them! The extras like apps and sensors are a huge help in coaching you on your brushing technique at home. It’ll be like you have a tiny dentist right beside you making sure you have the healthiest mouth possible!
