2021 has been a year for the books!
This was my first full year as a sole business owner, and because I am a huge believer in GO BIG OR GO HOME…
I took the reins at Sugar Fix and then opened Plump Room botox and filler boutique next door only 2 months later! At times it felt a little crazy to be running two businesses with all the changing tides of a pandemic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I love being a dentist, and how well facial injectables fit right in with the beautiful cosmetic work we provide here at Sugar Fix.
Here at Sugar Fix, I’ve loved getting to know all of you so well.
For some of you (the lucky ones!) we’ve only spent a few minutes together chatting during your cleanings and checkups. For the even luckier ones, we spent hours together designing your smile makeover and making your dreams a reality! Truly the best part for me has been getting to know you all on a personal level. I absolutely adore hearing about your kids, your new jobs and promotions, and all the new puppies! Thank you for making me feel like a welcome friend instead of a scary dentist.
This year was full of some wonderful new partnerships as well. I was selected as Haute Living Magazine’s smile expert for the city of Chicago, which was a huge honor. I’ve had the pleasure of being a contributing writer to their online platform as well. I used to write all the time when I was a researcher writing journal articles. It was so much fun to use the literary part of my brain again!
Kayla and I finished up a 3 month advanced Invisalign program, man did we put it to use! We had monthly one-on-one sessions with the Invisalign team down in Costa Rica to be the first to learn about new products and techniques they are rolling out. Of course, we always love learning and have been incredibly happy to pass this information along to our patients. We’ve had our Invisalign cases go so predictably and even more quickly than we promised our patients!
We also had a wonderful time meeting our neighbors and local Lakeview businesses. We partnered with not one, but THREE breweries during the Lincoln Ave Beer Stroll. With our 90’s theme, Britney Spears costumes, photo booth, and food pairings, it’s no wonder we became the favorite spot on the stroll. Our breweries loved being selected for our space, with all the decorations and theme music. We also had a blast passing out candy and snapping polaroids of you all!
I think you would all agree that I have the best team here.
Marissa, Kayla, and Gabrielle are my ride or die squad, and we’ve accomplished so much this year while having a blast at the same time. If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll have seen our wine toasts, potlucks, lunches out, and tik tok dances. Also the treats… so many treats! I think we consumed half the sugar in Chicago. But hey- its ok! We always brush and floss after our brownies and ice cream sundaes!
In 2022 we are setting some major goals. Rather than new years resolutions, I’ve always been a supporter of goal setting and vision boards at the end of the year. I love setting myself up for starting the new year out on a positive note. As a team, we order in brunch and coffees, then spend the morning talking about what we want to accomplish as a team long-term, breaking into steps and bite-size pieces we can accomplish monthly, weekly and even daily! I like to have the girls chat about their personal goals as well. We are a very supportive bunch and keep each other focused on achieving everything! We spend so much of our lives with the work squad, and its wonderful when we vibe like a family! These goal-setting practices are something I learned at a goal-setting workshop years ago, and it’s always been effective without overwhelming.
The thing that’s been occupying my mind for the new year is how little things add up to big results. I’ve been writing down all the little moments that bring us joy throughout the year and figuring out ways to bring them into our day-to-day with more consistency. From our morning stretches, to dance breaks, to the new scent stories we’re infusing into the loft, we are all about creating joy every single day in 2022!
For now, we’re keeping our cards close to the chest, but you’ll be sure to hear about us celebrating whenever we achieve one of our goals!
